Che is listed as one of the ten major surnames among modern Chinese people descended from Shun.
Che / Ch'e
Che is listed as one of the ten major surnames among modern Chinese people descended from Shun.
A major branch of the Che surname originated from the Gui lineage through the Tian surname. The Han chancellor Tian Qianqiu traveled by carriage in old age and was called the “Carriage Chancellor”; some of his descendants adopted Che as their surname.
From the Han period onward, founding migrant ancestors of the ten Shun-descended surnames, including Che, successively moved to Shangyu and multiplied there.
According to 1985 county gazetteer statistics, Shangyu had 1,045 people surnamed Che.
Genealogies from Shun-descended settlements in Shangyu record the Guyu Che clan.
