Chong / Chong
The Chong surname originated as an ancient clan surname, and the Chong people were a branch of the Xia people.
According to He Guangyue's research, before the Tang-Yu period the Chong people crossed the Min Mountains with the Xia tribal alliance, traveled east along the Wei River, and moved to the area of present-day Xiangfen County, Shanxi.
The Chong people had an enfeoffed state during the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties; the state of Chong was later destroyed by King Wen of Zhou, and the Chong people took the state name as their surname.
The Diwang Shiji records that Gun was enfeoffed by Yao as Chongbo; Yu inherited his father's position and also served as Chongbo.
After Yu became emperor, the Chong people moved to Mount Song in Henan; Song and Chong are close in meaning, and the character Song came from Chong.
