Origins

Originating from the Jiang Surname

Chunyu originated from the Jiang surname and was descended from Yan Emperor. It took the name of a state as its surname. After King Wu of Zhou conquered Shang, Chunyu Gong of the Jiang surname was enfeoffed at Zhouyi and established the Zhou state. After its restoration, the state was called Chunyu; following its fall, its clansmen adopted the former state name as their surname.
