Classical Attestations
The Guwen Suoyu records that the surname came from Gonggong and that Gonggong had a minister named Fuyou. The Lushi records Furuo's flight to Tang and the later formation of the Fulai surname, abbreviated to Fu.

Migration and Distribution
One Fu branch in Nanjing, Jiangsu, came from Xuying Town in Huojia County, Henan; its ancestor Fuxiu migrated from Changsha, Hunan. Fu clans are distributed in Xi'an, Huojia, Xiuwu, Changsha, Ningxia, Hami, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, among other places.
