One branch descends from Gongshu Duan of Zheng and belongs to the Ji lineage; another descends from Huo Qubing, the Champion Marquis, adopting the character jun from the official title as a surname and tracing to the Huo surname.
The surname Jun is first recorded in the Tang-dynasty Yuanhe Xingzuan; it is also included in Zheng Tongzhi's Clan Treatise.
The Jun surname is distributed in Gu'an and Huanghua in Hebei, Longkou in Shandong, Yuncheng in Shanxi, and Lushui in Yunnan; it is also found in Wujin, Guangfeng, Huainan, Taoyuan, Dongchuan, Beijing, and Wuchuan.
In the Song dynasty, Jun Yanshang served as Governor of Linchuan.
