The Ji branch is connected with Duke Zhou Dan and Bo Qin receiving Lu as a fief; after Lu fell, their descendants adopted the state name as their surname. After the fall of Lu, Lu descendants moved to Xiayi and subsequently multiplied in Shandong. During the Qin-Han period they moved toward Guanzhong; after the mid-Eastern Han they expanded around Xincai in Henan and later spread through Jiangnan, Shandong, Shanxi, Hebei, Henan, and Shaanxi.
