During the Spring and Autumn period, some descendants of Bai Gongsheng were enfeoffed at Shenyi, northwest of present-day Yingshang County, Anhui, and adopted the fief’s name as the surname Shen.
The Warring States legalist Shen Dao, honorifically called “Shenzi,” taught at Jixia. Surviving chapters of his Shenzi include Weide, Yinxun, Minza, Deli, and Junren.
Shen Shouli, the second son of Shen Wenqi, married a Wuyue princess, entered the court with the Qian ruler, served as secretary in a princely establishment, and later settled in Chenzhou.
Shen Wenqi was a loyal official and ci scholar of Wuyue during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. He refused under torture to falsely implicate his former lord and was later promoted to judge of the Marshal’s Office after the truth was established.

The Ming jinshi Shen Meng served as an investigating censor and wrote Tianxia Mingshan Zhusheng Yilan Ji and Huangming Wenze. His sons Shen Maoshang and Shen Maoguan respectively wrote Siyi Guangji and Huayi Huamu Niaoshou Zhenwan Kao.
