Origins
Three Origins
The Sheng surname has three origins: one derives from the Ji surname and takes the state of Sheng as its surname; one changed from She because of the taboo on Emperor Yuan of Han's personal name; and one derives from the Qing-era Manchu Eight Banners clan Shengjia, which adopted the Han surname Sheng.
