Descendants of Juyan

Juyan, Northern Pacification General of Southern Liang, belonged to the Chegai clan of the Tufa branch of the Hexi Xianbei. After Southern Liang fell, his clanspeople and descendants moved to the Anyang area, and some later adopted Ju as a single-character surname.

Variant Pronunciations

Both jù and jū are recorded as pronunciations of the surname. Zhongguo Gujin Xingshi Cidian and Xingshi Cidian give jù, while another entry gives jū and notes that Xingshi Cidian does not follow that reading.
