Origins

Descent from a Song Official

The page, through Xingshi Kaolüe's citation of Shiben, says the surname descended from Bo, a grand preceptor of Song, with Dunqiu as its commandery association. Another passage calls him a right minister of Song in the Spring and Autumn period and notes that some versions say left minister. These are secondary quotations, not direct verification of the originals.

Xiao Zong Name-Change Account

According to the page's secondary citations, Xingshi Cidian, citing Yunhui Juyao, says Emperor Wu of Liang changed Prince Xiao Zong's surname to 勃 after his flight to Northern Wei. Another passage attributes this version to Guangyun but notes that Liangshu gives 悖 instead. The character form is therefore disputed rather than settled.
