Origins
Origin from an Official Title and Name Evolution
One branch of the Mi lineage descended from Liu Jiao, Prince Yuan of Chu. Liu De, Liu Jiao's great-grandson, held the office of Zongzheng, one of the Nine Ministers responsible for the imperial palace affairs. His collateral descendants adopted their ancestor's official title as a surname, becoming Zongzheng, later Zongzheng with the alternate character 政, and in many cases eventually shortening it to Zong.
