The De surname is currently uncommon and is distributed in Shangyi of Hebei, Tacheng of Xinjiang, and Lushui of Yunnan. It is used by Han and Lisu people and is also included in Xinbian Qianjiaxing.

Origins

Surname Origins

Besides the Han-period branch associated with Delai, a De official of the Maxiang Chiefdom in Guiyang Prefecture, Guizhou, during the Qing period had a surname said to have begun in the Ming period. During the Ming and Qing periods, the hereditary inspector of the Jinsha River Patrol Office in Binchuan Prefecture, Yunnan, also bore the De surname.
