Migration and Distribution

Formation and Migration of the Xiangshan Line

Mangwutai accompanied Bayan in the conquest of the Song in the eleventh year of Zhiyuan and was granted hereditary possession of Qingyuan in the twenty-second year, settling in Hutong Lane; he is regarded as the progenitor of the surname. In 1385, Manggutu moved to the Changguo Guard and became its founding ancestor. The three-character surname Mangwutai was subsequently shortened to Mang.
