Descendants of Zhuanxu
Tradition holds that the Kunwu clan descended from Zhuanxu, a grandson of the Yellow Emperor, and was an allied tribe of the Xia dynasty.

Name Derived from the State of Kunwu
The tribe was enfeoffed in the state of Kunwu, identified as east of present-day Xuchang in Henan, and was therefore called the Kunwu clan.
