Origins

Connection with Qijia Culture

One view holds that after Xia Qi destroyed Youhu, part of the Youhu people migrated westward to the northwest and developed into Qijia culture.

Historical Records

Early Textual Records

The Records of the Grand Historian states that Youhu resisted and Xia Qi attacked it; the Kuo Di Zhi says that Nanhu County of Yongzhou was originally the Xia state of Hu.

Migration and Distribution

Later Dispersal

After the Xia period and during the Shang era, part of Youhu was incorporated as the Jiang Rong and was active in Shaanxi and southern Shanxi; another part remaining in its original area gradually developed into Xin Dian and Siwa cultures.
