Jū / Chü
Tradition holds that descendants of Ju Song, a historiographer under the Yellow Emperor, adopted Ju as their surname and regarded him as its founding ancestor; this account appears in Shiben.
Another traditional lineage traces the surname to Fu Xu of the state of Chu during the Spring and Autumn period. His descendants adopted Ju because xu and ju were pronounced similarly; this account appears in Lushi.
Shitong Tongshi quotes Fengsu Tong as identifying the Ju clan as descendants of the Yellow Emperor's historiographer “Ju Yong,” and also quotes Wei Heng as saying that Ju Song and Cang Jie first created written records to replace knotted cords.
Ju Shou was an adviser to Yuan Shao in the late Eastern Han and repeatedly offered strategic counsel. After the Battle of Guandu, he was captured by Cao Cao and died after refusing to surrender.
