Hui Huo families were mainly distributed in Nanjing and Yangzhou during the Yuan and Ming dynasties, and later moved to Hunan and Hubei, with major concentrations in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Hunan, and Hubei. A Xibe branch of the Huohuoqi clan migrated west to Ili during the Qianlong period of the Qing dynasty and later mostly adopted the Han surnames Huo, Huo, or Qi.

Historical Figure

Huo Ji was a figure of the Three Kingdoms period. He accompanied Zhuge Liang in the campaign against Meng Huo and, for supplying provisions, opening routes, and providing military assistance, was made King of Luodian and granted hereditary rule over the area.
