Fu is a rare surname with only slightly more than 1,000 bearers nationwide; more than 30 households comprising over 200 Fu residents live in Youcheqiao Village, Puyuan Town, Tongxiang.

Historical Records

Fu Kui in the Da Ming Yitong Zhi

The Da Ming Yitong Zhi records that Emperor Xiaozong of Song appointed Fu Kui to administer Taizhou. Fu advocated caring for soldiers and civilians and conserving public resources, and said that he could discern principles and hear lawsuits.

Commanderies and Clan Halls

Chuanyi Hall and Chuanyi Academy

Late in life, Fu Guang built Chuanyi Hall in Chongde County to teach students. In 1269, local scholars converted it into Chuanyi Academy, where teaching continued until the late-Qing reform of the academy system.

Migration and Distribution

Present-Day Distribution in Tongxiang

Descendants of the Fu lineage are now concentrated around Wuzhen and Puyuan towns in Tongxiang, with one branch settled in Youcheqiao Village of Puyuan.

Notable People

Scholar Fu Guang

Fu Guang, approximately 1145–1220, had the courtesy name Hanqing and the sobriquet Qian'an. He studied successively under Lü Zuqian and Zhu Xi and was enshrined in the eastern gallery of the Confucian Temple in the sixth year of the Guangxu reign.
