Fù / Fu
One account says that the Dàtíng clan lived in Qufu and later produced the Fu surname, regarded as deriving from the Jiang surname. Another says that Lu had Tángfu, and that place names such as Fucheng and Fuling may have given rise to the Fu surname.
The book Xingshi Kaolüe records the Fu surname and cites Yuanhe Xingzuan and the Han Geography Treatise in explaining its origins.
The Fu surname is distributed in Yongdeng, Gansu, and in Taiyuan, Jincheng, and the Lüliang area of Shanxi. It is also found in Huainan and Mengcheng in Anhui, Jiading in Shanghai, Fengcheng in Jiangxi, Tainan in Taiwan, and Dawa in Liaoning.
The recorded locations of the relevant place names are: Tángfu of Lu, thirty li northwest of present-day Mengyin in Shandong; Han Fucheng, twenty-two li east of present-day Fucheng County in Hebei; and Fuling, fifteen li east of present-day Quanjiao County in Anhui.
