Origins
The Jie surname has two lines of origin: descendants of Cang Jie, the Yellow Emperor's historiographer, adopting an ancient person's name as a surname; and descendants of Yu Jie, a Zheng official in the Spring and Autumn period, from the Ji surname.
Migration and Distribution
Jie families are numerous in Jiejiacun of Gangu, Gansu. One account says that three brothers moved separately: the eldest remained in Gangu, the second moved to Dawujie Village in Jiangxi, and the third moved to Shaanxi.
