After the kingdom fell, some inhabitants fled to Sichuan in the early Tang period and adopted Peng as a Sinicized surname derived from the state’s name.

Descendants of Xi Peng

One Peng lineage traces to descendants of Xi Peng, a Jiang-surnamed official of Qi. Members of the Peng clan who took refuge in “Beishan” divided into the Beng and Peng surnames; the Peng branch retained its surname because of the peng bird’s auspicious majesty. The location of “Beishan” remains undetermined.

Mongol Origins
