Origins

Origin in a Chu Settlement

During the Spring and Autumn period, the Chu grandee Wu Shang received Tang as his fief. His descendants adopted Tang as their surname, making it a surname derived from a fief and associated with the Wu lineage. The former site of Tangyi was north of present-day Liuhe, Jiangsu.
