Ji-surname Lineage
One Yu lineage is traced to the Ji surname: descendants of Prince Yumi of Zheng first established the Yu (渝) clan, from which the Yu (喻) and Yu (俞) clans separated during Emperor Jing's reign because of a naming taboo; the three are thus described as sharing an ancestor.

Migration and Distribution
Migration to Ningxiang
Yu Tao, the founding migrant ancestor of the Ningxiang branch, moved from Qiantang in Zhejiang to Nancun in Ningxiang, Hunan, during the Jianlong era of the Northern Song. His grandsons Yu Ziqiu and Yu Zihui later settled separately in Longgao and Nan'an.

From Ningxiang to Anhua
The Anhua branch genealogy records that Yu Tao moved from Huangjiang in Pingxiang, Jiangxi, to Ningxiang, Hunan, in the seventh year of the Kaibao era of the Northern Song. His fourteenth-generation descendant Yu Guozhang moved to Anhua around the transition from the Yuan to the Ming dynasty.
