Surname status
The compilation explicitly treats 麴 (qū) as a currently used but relatively rare surname within Chinese naming traditions. It describes it in one passage as a Han Chinese surname and elsewhere as a Tujia surname, so it should not be presumed to be exclusively Han.

Origins
Surname-change account
According to this compilation's retelling of the Hanshu biography of Wang Jia, Yuanhe Xingzuan, and Zizhi Tongjian, the surname 麴 was said to have been adopted from 鞠: after Western Han official Ju Tan was implicated in a case, his son Ju Bi took refuge in Huangzhong, settled in Xiping, and changed the surname to 麴, becoming described as the first ancestor of the Xiping Qu lineage. This is a secondary compilation's account, not direct verification of the cited originals.

Lu-descendant account
The compilation also cites Xing shi kao lüe quoting Lu Shi for the statement that descendants of Lu included a 麴 clan, and uses tentative wording to suggest a possible Ji-surname origin. This is conjectural and cannot be treated as a verified common ancestry.

Commanderies and Clan Halls
Commandery associations and hall name
The compilation explicitly lists Wuxing and Xiping as commandery associations and Huizheng Hall as the hall name. Its explanation connects the hall name with the benevolent administration of Tang-era Wangjiang magistrate Qu Xinling and reports accounts of answered rain prayers, a shrine built during his lifetime, and a poem by Bai Juyi; these are claims made by the compilation.
